Summer blog

Heathy eating for Summer

As Summer approaches everyone tries to get the summer body of their dreams by traing harder and eating healthier. I enjoy eating salads and fruits and staying in shape. It's important to stay active and to eat the right diet in order to live a happy long life. Excersise has proven to help with anxiety and a way to deal with stress. Clean eating, according to the British Journal of Health Psychology, helps make you feel happier and more creative. Also according to expearience, eating more fruit and veg can help with a better nights sleep. However it is ok to be unhealthy as long as you don't eat too much a day. It's healthy to eat a chocolate bar as long as your eating fruit or veg as well this is because it creates a balance between unhealthy and healthy meaning your eating a healthy diet. In this blog I am going to show you what I eat for lunch for 5 days. In my opinion they are all inexpensive and are very delicious.

                                           Monday-salad

On Monday I had a salad with lettuce, pasta, tomato and other brightly coloured vegetables. A salad is a typical dish for eating healthily and can become very boring with the standard ingredients. By adding a dressing or chicken peices it can spice up the meal. I made mine at my local supermarket so I could only choose from what was in the counter however if you were making yours at home you can add in anything you wanted. Whether it be grated cheese, a french dressing or pumpkin seeds. Salads can be made by a whole range of different fruit and vegetables which is why I love it and consider it a must for a healthier lunch. To drink, I had a glass of Innocent strawberry and banana smoothie, smoothies are a great alternative instead of having fizzy drinks or any other high sugar beverages. On the whole the salad and the smoothie was a filling yet scrumptious lunch which I will definitely be eating again.

                            Tuesday-Vege sticks and salsa

Today I wanted to have a lighter lunch and vege sticks with salsa was perfect! It was different to my normal lunch which would normally consist of a sandwich and a side however it still had a range of flavours and was very easy to put together. I find that a lot of dips can be very high in sugars for example ketchup and BBQ sauce therefore I chose 'Dotitos mild salsa' as its low in sugar and made out of tomatoes. You can, like the salad, change this to how you prefer. Instead of using vegetables you could use crackers or breadsticks. If you would prefer to go down this route then I would recommend using 'Ryvita thins'. They are thin crackers which come in a range of flavours and great to dunk in salsa. I really enjoyed this, it was light, refreshing a and perfect for when you want something quick.

                                                         Wednesday-Fruit salad with yoghurt

This time I wanted to have something other than vegetables so I  had a fruit salad with strawberry yoghurt. Yoghurt is very good for our bodies as its high in calcium and helps with digestion. The fruit yoghurt goes well with the fruit and adds a little more flavour. This again was really easy and quick to make and also inexpensive. It also counts as one of your 5 a day so it benefits you nutrionally. I loved this dish as it had a lot of flavour, it was different and really cheap.

 Thursday-Tuna and cucumber on Ryvitas

I had something completely different today. For the first 3 days I've eaten either fruit or veg and I was getting bored of eating the same thing. If you want to get intrested in healthy eating then I would advise changing up your meals and trying different dishes. Today I had tuna and cucumber on Ryvitas. I made sure not to use mayonnaise as even though it gives it extra flavour it is unhealthy in the way it has a high fat content. Tuna is amazing for you as it's full of protein. Ryvitas are a great alternative to bread however they don't have much flavour so if you prefer something less tasteless then I would recommend flavoured rice cakes. This was so tasty to eat and has shown me that I like to have different foods every now and again.

Friday-Crackers with cucumber, tomato and salsa

Today I had crackers with tomato, cucumber and salsa. I created it so I could put on what I wanted in whatever order. Crackers are a great way to eat healthily as you can put whatever you want on their. Instead of what I put you could add hummus and carrots. Also if you don't like crackers then Ryvitas or rice cakes are good alternatives. It was a very light meal so it didn't leave me feeling full and heavy throughout the day and it was different to what I previously had. I really enjoyed this meal and will be having it again for sure!

To review, this week has been an eye opener in terms of food. I know that I don't need to have a lot or something fancy in order for it to be healthy or for me to enjoy. Some of these meals were really filling leaving me quite full throughout the day. This helped me to stop snacking on choclate bars and sweets. I hope you've enjoyed this blog and given you ideas on what healthy lunches you can have during the Summer. If you have any healthy lunch or snack ideas please comment them down below.
